We’ve received an excellent response to our initial call for participants in the research.
The research is independent and led by Professor Debbie Foster of Cardiff University. It is supported by the Law Society, the Bar Council, Bar Standards Board and LawCare, who have expressed an interest in the findings to inform future strategies on Equality and Inclusion. Data collected will contribute, in an anonymised form, to academic publications and reports.
The research group is interested in hearing from all disabled people or anyone with a long term health condition who has sought a career (post education) in any part of the law. We are interested in your experiences, the barriers you have faced, and any positive experiences and successes that might form the basis for future best practice.
You can look around our website for more information. The signup bar can be found in the footer of this website or email us directly on info@legallydisabled.com
Focus Groups [Update: focus groups are now complete]
There are plenty of opportunities to take part in the research. Focus groups will help us to understand the key issues impacting on disabled legal professionals and will shape our research questions. Issues raised will be incorporated in individual interviews and survey.
London based focus groups to be held at the Law Society
20 November 16.30 to 18.00
21 November 12.00 to 13.30
5 December 13:30 to 15:00
We still have a small number of places left for both dates. The focus groups are only open to disabled legal professionals (this includes physical and sensory impairments, health conditions, mental health conditions and learning disabilities).
We understand that many people choose not to disclose disability to employers and colleagues and we take account of this in the research methodology. The groups will be facilitated by disabled people under the Chatham House rule. No personal details will be shared and notes from the focus groups will not contain personal identifiers.
You can email us on info@legallydisabled.com with any queries or to book your place on a focus group.
Please do not turn up without informing us that you wish to participate in advance.
A number of people have requested that we hold focus groups elsewhere around the UK and we will progress with determining venues and dates within the next few weeks. If you are able to offer a suitable venue we would welcome you contacting the researchers.
Virtual Focus Group
If you are unable to make a focus group in person, we will be setting up a secure virtual focus group. Further details to be released in a few weeks.
If you haven’t already, you can contact us on info@legallydisabled.com to register an interest in participating in the research.
