These groups are crucial to help us to gain a better insight into the issues that you have faced throughout your career so that we can start to shape our research questions.
We will provide a number of prompts to stimulate discussion to explore the experiences of disabled people and people with health conditions (including mental health) across the legal profession.
- Focus Groups will be run in co-operation with the LDD
- Each session 1.5 hours maximum
- Groups of two to ten people
- Chatham House Rules – confidentiality respected
- Held in accessible venues around England and Wales
- All focus groups facilitated by disabled people

How we use the data
Consent forms will be provided at the start of each focus group. You can remove your consent to participate in the research at any point, even after the focus groups are finished.
The focus groups will be recorded purely to produce an accurate record of discussion, transcripts will not be produced. Any reports produced will be anonymised and ‘identifiers’ removed so that examples given cannot identify individuals.
All discussion informs our understanding of themes and key issues and allows us to explore these issues in greater detail and the research study progresses.
Participation in the focus groups is entirely voluntary and self-selected. Involvement in focus groups has no impact on involvement at later stages of the study e.g. one to one interviews and the survey.
Virtual Focus Group
A virtual focus group will be established via a secure online forum. This will allow people who can’t attend in-person focus groups to let us know what issues exist or have existed in the course of their career.
As with in-person focus groups, discussion takes place under Chatham House Rules and all data used will be anonymised.
